About

I'm Lancy Cv, the author of this blog! I live in Chennai with my parents, my adorable pet dog (Tommy!) and my sweet-aggressive pet rooster! (We call him Roo!)

Why do I blog about food? : It started one fine day when I decided to make a coffee! And guess what, the experience was a disaster when my mom caught me trying to light the stove. She was obviously unhappy about it since I was 9 years old back then. The coffee making trial indeed was a bitter experience. The coffee turned out bitter as well. But now, you can trust my coffee.

People trust and eat the food I cook! Over these 12 years, I've learned SO many recipes and cooking techniques by experimenting things in the kitchen. (My favorite hobby!) First, my aunt's kitchen and then when I turned 14 something, my mom did let me use her kitchen after she started trusting I'd not burn our house!

Coming to 2016, I still love cooking contrary to how people used to say I'd lose that interest once I grow up. I love experimenting new recipes in the kitchen. Thankfully, no more bitter coffees and stone-like cakes. I've learned to make even those 'failure' recipes work somehow!

What else do I do? : When I'm not in the kitchen, I do work on my other blog and my business! I've been blogging for the last 5 years on my beauty-lifestyle blog and I started this food blog in 2012. Somehow, I did not get the time to continue food-blogging so after a REALLY long gap, I'm back now! And I can't be more happier.

Cooking is my passion and I'm not afraid to say this is the best part of my work, the best part that I enjoy! Though I do run my main blog (where I talk about my hair, share product recipes etc. along with the other writers who work for us!) this food blog is close to my heart and I shall try to update it often!

For now, I'd be updating this space more with..

Quick breakfasts : These really help me start my day better! I honestly do not have the time to spend hours in my kitchen every morning due to my work schedule. But a day without breakfast is a bad day for me. I love making instant wheat ghee dosa and eat it with white sugar! I've been loving it so much lately. And I shall share many such favorites recipes of mine in the column. I hope you will love this section!

One pot curries : These are again, lifesavers! A one pot curry completes 75% of my daily food preparation. This includes one-pot sambar, kulambu/kuzhambu (curry, in Tamil) and other gravies that can be cooked without standing in the kitchen for a long time! You can set it all and come out of the kitchen to do your other chores or just to relax. Don't underestimate the 'one-pot' theme! My aunt, who's a great cook, is a fan of my one-pot sambar. Not boasting but it's my favorite too! The 'one-pot' column will feature more many favorites from my list!

Eggless cakes : Except for me, my family members are all vegetarians. Mom does take NV rarely but still, it's hard to bake cake with eggs here because no one bothers to eat. Hence, I'd recently developed this love for sweet, egg-less cakes made of condensed milk. A few drops of vanilla essence and the cake just tastes like heaven! I also try cookies, muffins and other egg-less recipes. Did I tell you I make them using my pressure cooker? (I'm yet to buy an oven!)

Stir fries : These go well with curries and boiled rice! An one pot sambar, steamy cooked rice and a broad bean stir fry is enough for our simple lunch! The combo feels very filling and it's nutritious as well. When you've fresh vegetables ready, you can make a stir fry in less than ten minutes. This section will cover my own stir fry recipes (I try them with different spices!)

Pickles! : Last but not the least. I actually should have mentioned 'pickles' first as I cannot describe my love for them in words! I was someone who always hated pickles, ever since my childhood. Until I tried this tomato pickle recipe at home, I never liked pickles. Then, the pickle fever got into me. I tried picking chicken, bitter guard, shallots and guess what.. Pickles are not the easiest to make (they take time! but last for a LONG time! Other recipes can hardly beat the taste of a pickle. They do not go bad easily. A hot bowl of rice + a teaspoon of tomato pickle and a dollop of ghee is all you need for an instant, delicious south Indian meal! I shall be sharing many such pickle recipes with you in coming days.

To be continued..
